Ranco thermostat for incubator?
Can I use a ranco thermostat for an incubator? I have heard that people have used this with success. I know you are all going to say that you should get a proportional thermostat and dont get me wrong, I would LOVE to get one for my incubator, but I don't have that much money for a herpstat or a helix. And I rather use a proportional than ranco. For the Ranco thermostat, how much will the temperature go +/- from the set temperature? I have the hydrofarm on/off thermostat for my snake rack and that goes like +/- 2 degrees from the set temp.
Re: Ranco thermostat for incubator?
My ranco stays pretty firm, it usually varies by about 1.5 degrees or so. You can set it to vary more. Just have a thermometer probe inside your egg tub. It should take like 92 on the thermostat to hit 88 inside the tub, but you'll have to adjust based on your individual setup. You could also use a hydrofarm. I've used mine for an incubator with no problems (its only 50 days after all).
