    IMO waste.

I use these while I'm saving up for better replacements.

Yeah, just save up and get a Herpstat or Helix. You'll be glad you did. :gj:

Online is the only place you'll find decent thermostats, or at shows. I linked one that I use temporarily until I can afford others, I slowly upgrade.

    Reptilebasics.com has some good ones
    http://spyderrobotics.com/ has herpstats

Helix is the best choice..but i dont think its worth it if you are just going to use it in one animal IMO. If you own a couple of snakes..i would go that route.

If you only have two or three snakes, Id get the BAH-1000DC from bigappleherp.com, I also recommend their thermo/hygro.

I'll be the devil's advocate here. I don't believe they're a waste at all. You DO get what you pay for so by going with the cheaper thermostat, you're going to have to monitor temps a lot more closely and possibly adjust the thermostat more often if needed for room temp fluctuation. You also can expect a slightly wider temperature range as the cheaper thermostats may fluctuate 5 degrees whereas the top of the line stay within 2. But for the average pet snake owner with one tank to heat, I can't justify telling someone they need to go out and buy a top-of-the-line thermostat and that anything less is a waste. After all, a cheap thermostat is going to work MUCH better than a dimmer or a rheostat...

Definitely check out the Hydrofarm on Amazon. They're pretty cheap, but seem to work pretty well. I have one and find it to work perfectly for my needs. As my collection grows and/or I start breeding, I will invest in a helix or herpstat, but until that point, I don't see it as necessary...

its better than nothing. if you have the money just by a herpstat. you will save yourself alot of hassle. Also depends on how much you value your snake. I have a couple snakes in the upper hundreds so spending the 100-200 on a good thermostat is worth it.
