    Hog Island Feeding
I have a male and female Hog Island that are 3 years old. The female is about 5 foot and the male about 4 foot. How often and what size rats should these guys be getting. Thanks in advance. Here's a link to their pics, I'm 6'3" and weigh 215lbs. http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...gg-Island-Pair

I would say start off with a smallish rat for both of them (small adult, not a pup) every 7-10 days.. see if that gives them any sort of bulge from that. They're really great looking! Hope that they breed for you!

My Hog's a bit smaller than yours, and I'm feeding a medium rat every week. Honestly, That's what I'd go with for those guys too, just because a medium rat is a little big for my boy. (I just buy medium because I'm buying for 2 snakes approx. the same size...)

I am very new to hogs (and honestly, snakes in general, although I feel it's my calling... :P ) though, so don't take my word for it. It's just a matter of using common sense. :D

Check out cuttingedgeherp.com, Vin Russo's site. At three years old you should only be feeding them every 2-3 weeks. The size is hard to say without seeing them in person. I'm guessing a med. rat would probaly be good though. Since they're insular boas, they have evolved to eat less often because of less food being available. They should not be on a feeding schedule the same as a ball python. As adults they will thrive on anywhere from 12-14 meals a year.

Thanks bro. That's about what i figured. The male had 2 medium rats a week and a half ago. He's in shed at this point. The female hasn't eaten yet. It's been 2 and a half weeks for her.

My male is about the size of your female (2010), but thicker. He will eat a med or lrg (150-250 gram) rat every 14 days.

The female is a 2011 and only 350 grams, she eats every 5-7 days 35-45 gram rats.

Just a comparison for size and age. The older he gets the less often he wants to eat.

Our girl is about 2.5 years old and she is almost 5ft. She gets a small to medium rat every two weeks or so. She is not really on a set feeding schedule but always longer than once a week. Her growth has slowed and she doesn't require as much. I don't want her to become obese but right now she is fat and happy. She has been on this schedule for the past year or so and hasn't dropped weight.

Pictures of her are on our facebook page linked below.
