Is everything covered?

Hey, I'm getting a BP today and I want to know if I have everything right on my setup. I have a 30 inches long, 1ft deep, and 20 inches high tank with a locking screen top.

I have two Identical hides on each side, and water bowl hide, a humidity hide, and another regular hide, and a couple toilet paper tubes. Using aspen snake bedding. I have a couple branches and plants in there also.

I have two thermometers under the bedding on each side. One under the heating pad. i also have a thermostat controlling the temps. My temps are as follows; on the cool side 72.6 F, on the warm side 92.1 F, and also on the warm side, the temp from my thermostat says 87.9 F. It's 7:30 am and the sun is just now coming up and I slept with my window open last night, but my temps always seem weird like that. Usually it's only 83 or 84 on the cool side.

So is everything right on my setup?

i think you are all set..just make sure try to keep your temp on the cool side around 82-84

It actually sounds great to me for a first time owner! May I suggest that in my experience with tanks, blacking out the sides and back makes them feel more secure. I use black Con-tact paper from Home Depot for $6. It makes the tank seem less big and can sometimes prevent them from being stressed. You may not need it though, since it is cluttered with plants and the sorts. Good luck and congrats on your pick up! :D

What is your humidity level at?

Sounds good. Should only really need a humid hide when they shed. Also the toilet paper tubes u might want to twice on. Have read they can go in and get stuck and you have to cut them out then.

Hey guys, thanks for the feed back. I got my BP today at Repticon here in Georgia from a breeder. Got a 3 month old female for 25 bucks. Just your regular BP but she has a lot of personality. :) I named her "Donut" because powered sugar got on the top of her deli cup on the way home.

I brought her home and she explored the tank a little bit and checked everything out. She is now in one of the paper tubes or under the water bowl. I'm not sure and I don't want to mess with her right away to find out.

She was on live mice and I'm a F/T kinda person so I went ahead and got 50 frozen weanling mice from the mice direct booth for 35 bucks. I hope I can get her to switch over with out problems.

@pythonregius24 Thanks, now that the window is closed, the cool side is at a steady 82 F-84 F.

@LGray23 I was thinking about using foam padding for the sides of the tank. Since glass isn't the best for keeping in heat and also it might help with the security. Two birds, one stone. ;) I do have a background on the back of the tank as you can see from the pics.

@Toddnkaya That's one thing I don't know. I don't have a humidity gauge in there. I actually don't know what type to buy. If you could give me a hint, it'd be much appreciated. I do however have a large (not deep) water bowl in there and a humidity hide. So she can either soak up or go in the hide if she wants.

Decent looking setup, congrats...but...where are the pictures of her? ;)

I suggest if you are dead set on using those half log hides, I'd make sure the back lines up to the back of the tank. They are notorious for being, not the best hides, for ball pythons because they don't make them feel as secure being wide open in the front and back.

Thanks for the tip. I'll put them against the back when I feed her on Wednesday. I'll throw up some pictures Wednesday of her as well. Stay tuned to this thread for them.

For a humidity gauge there's a digital one for like 8 or 10 bucks at Walmart otherwise for 12 bucks and some change u can get the all in one thermometer its got indoor/outdoor temp and a humidity gauge built in.

You take the probe and put it in the substrate or right on the glass above the heatpad so you know the hottest spot in the tank. Then set the thermostat to 90-95 so your hot spot can't get over 100 and worry about them getting burned.

Hot spot should be between 88-92....
