Humidity is going crazy!

I just put Eco-Earth substrate in my new viv and the humidity is at 80%!!!! how long will it take to dry out? It's a 20g long tub. I have it about a half inch thick.

If you are using a tub, then it's going to hold the humidity better, so you can either take the lid off and let it dry out a little more, or increase the circulation/ventilation by using a small fan, or adding a few more holes.
If you are using a tank, with the screen top covered, just uncover some of it.

either way, if you used the bricks, its gonna take a week or so to dry out, i had this problem in my 55 a couple months ago, it didnt get below 70 for at least a week, but if you used the bag, it shouldnt take quite as long

Yeah, if you use the bricks it takes forever to dry. I've never had any luck with eco earth.

Make sure to keep stirring it as well so that wet clumps don't stay at the bottom and get moldy.

It's in an aquarium with a screen top. It's slowl dropping, I yhink it was just a bad read or something.

Now it's showing 60.

They now sell eco earth loose bags. What i use for my Toad, and their packed with slight moisture.

You can add water by spraying it if needed during sheds. I like it for certain species, But not snakes as its a messy substrate.

I got the loose bag, I thought it would be good to hold moisture durin the colder months here where I'll have to use a CHE.

My two cents for drying substrate... Get a canvas bag, or a pillow case, put the substrate in there. Tie it shut with a shoelace. Then, if your laundry dryer has either a no spin mode, or a tumble free rack, toss it in there for about an hour on high. Done. :D

It's what I do with my cypress before putting it in.
