Any idea of what they are
So we had a litter of rats from a double Rex male and a Rex female. Well every baby has a short tail. Parents tails are normal. Here are a few pics. They are not good. I couldn't get them to hold still.

They were most likely bit off....
Unless....do you know if they were born with their tails like that?

I can see one or two getting tails bit off but what are the odds all of them got cut off, unless it was some gruesome prank :O

Looks like they qualify as really good food :P

*on a side note, the last one looks like a standard coat, which isn't possible in a double rex X rex pairing, am I seeing the coat wrong?

Let's hope the breeder isn't trying to make short tail rats by docking them. Some dogs have their tails docked and ears trimmed. It's an artificial look that is man-made and never necessary except to please a human. =\

This was an entire litter born this way they didn't have tails at birth and no there isn't any standard coat it just looks that way in the pic.

Very odd. When in doubt - feed them off.

I have breed rodents for over 15 years and have never seen anything like that. There are rumors of tail less rats that are born that way but most people have found that they being cropped like somebody else had said. To me these look like they where cropped or bitten "to Soon" becuse they was still enough time to grow a bit more. Rats need there tails to control temps with heat and cool temps. I would just feed them off. imo. The other reason they could be this way is that they are sick aswell...

While they look bitten/cut off, there is a lady in Texas that has been working with curly tailed rats, she calls them "doodle rats".

So if they were for sure not born with tails, and have the bobbed look it could be a new type...
