Help. Too humid!

I just set up a new tub. The temps are fine, but its way too humid. Mid 70%. How can I lower the humidity? Punching more holes?

Yup, ventilation will help. If u already have good ventilation try a smaller water bowl or different substrate

I'm using paper towels as substrate. But the water bowl is pretty big I suppose. It's a small dog dish crock.

I've been punching more holes into the tub. So the tub now has 2 rows of holes on all sides, each hole an inch apart from each other. With 15 holes on the lid.
The humidity still hasn't gone down. It's still going up. And I even opened a window to allow better air flow.
Should I just take out the water bowl(temporarily...I don't have smaller one on hand at the moment)? Punch more holes? Both?

smaller water bowl and I'd not use paper towels it is a serious hazard if any gets eaten with a food item. Newspaper is safer (damp things don't tend to stick to it). What are you using to cotrol the heat and what are the temps on hot side and ambient air. i'd worry that ambient air temps with a window is too cool. Temp over humidity always don't sacrifice temps to correct humidity.

88-92 (small snakes do better cooler so 88) hot and 78-81 warm and ambient air 79-85.

I don't feed in the same tub, so I don't think the snake will ingest any part of the paper towel. But I'll try newspaper.

I have a hydrofarm thermostat reading 91. Accurite thermometer reading 90 hot side, 78 cold side. The humidity was with the water bowl was 85 degrees...I took out the water bowl, and it seems to be going down slowly.

Ok. This morning, the temps were still fine. The humidity was mid 70s.
When I got home in the evening, humidity was 100!
I live in California, so the ambient atmosphere is pretty dry. I keep putting more holes into the tub, but it still won't go lower than mid 70s.

I expected to have humidity problems...just not too much humidity..... :confused:

Check the accurite. it could easily be off as well. I have owned 3 the first they replaced as it was so far off the second was also replaced as it was also out of the spec sheet and the third sat on the edge of the specs so I gave it way. The worst one of the three was over just under 30% high.

Run a salt test and see what you get.

I'm running a fan in my room right now to get the air circulating. The humidity is dropping again. Now its low 70s. Temps are still stable.
I'll put a smaller water bowl in tomorrow. I didn't have time to buy a new one today.

What is a salt test?
