    breeding question
If I keep my three females in a tank together - is it okay if I take a female from the group put her in with the male (in his tank) let them breed and then return her to female tank?? Once I see that she is pregnant I will put her in her own tank to deliver and nurse the babies.

I know I seen it written that you usually bring the male to female but I want to do it this way in order to control who gets pregant and when.

Can anyone tell me whether it really makes a big difference with me putting the female in the males tank for breeding.

    Thanks

Honestly, with mice, it's the luck of the draw.

I have put together groups of 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5 and have seen no activity at all. I have one tub with 1.10 put together randomly and they are banging out babies like there's no tomorrow. No fighting. No eating babies. All of the moms nursing like crazy. Big fat babies. Go figure.

Males like female visitors in their cages. Female colonies don't always like male visitors in their territory.

I prefer to add females to males.

you have to get to know your mice, i have 2 females 1 male. female 1 gets taken in and out of the main cage and female 2 and the male are constantly kept together. its just how it worked out.

originally i put the male in but they both started kicking his butt. so i had to figure something out.
