    breeding question
i have a p.e.w female and a black hooded male they have been in the same cage now for about three months and no babies (friend with no benefit ) they snugle up and play together, i was thinking of getting another male. can you cross breed them with a dumbo or jumbo rat, and i would like to end up with some odd colors or wavey hair or a blazed or spotted dalmatian, how would i go about to get one of these colors. i'm not doing gene splicing. told my boys if we get a special color or an odd one from the litters they could have a new pet. all my rats are pets but some are food. and they kids are ok with that. and my wife likes the blazed color with the v marking on the face and blotched on the sides

This post was trying to read.

How old are the rats? Have you tried to separate them or put them in a new cage?

In order to know the colors your going to get you need to know the genetics they carry. If you want a blaze, buy a blaze rat. If you want a rex, buy a rex. Right now you have a PEW. PEW covers any and all color and is recessive. You don't know what they carry. Your hooded black will pass down the hood pattern and will allow the pups to carry black but if they carry PEW you'll end up with PEWs.

Odd eyes are hard to come by. Google rat genetics.

my rat are just about five months old, they are housed in a 29gal tank and since i have had them they have never been apart, i'm looking at a wire cage from critter nation #162 then i can separate them. also i can room more pets

I find that males added to a female bin are more so inclined to breed earlier. Instead of keeping them together.

Try separating them, changing the bedding and items in the cage completely.

Check your female for her heat cycles. Her vagina will be open once every 4 - 5 days when she is in heat. '

Its possible you have slow breeders.

The word fancy is just refers to a "pretty" norway rat. It's a petstore selling point.

Take a look at this thread...
