Advice Needed

I was given a guyanan by a friend who took it in as a rescue from someone else who had done the same thing. He had an RI for a while that was treated. Since I got him I've have not seen any signs of it. I have him in an enclosure with belly heat at 90 warm end 80 cool. I have a bowl of fresh water in with him.

He didn't eat in the month with my friend. He is active and has good body weight at nearly 4 feet. He did have some issues from the first owner he had. He was in a ten gallon tank at that size with a heat pad with no theromstat and had heat burns on his face. They have healed nicely though.

The other problem is he has a stuck shed thats pretty bad. My friend was trying to keep his humidity low for the RI and was leary about soaking him. Would it be ok to soak him just a little while after an RI?

I took him because my friend knew I'd give him a good home and he's actually a pretty nice looking boa. Any opinions on soaking him or any other advice would be appreciated.

To remove the stuck shed I don't see a problem with soaking him briefly in luke warm water....wait for more opinions though, not sure if it will affect the past RI or not...IMO it wouldn't, but I'm not certain.

I agree, but I'm also not certain. Another option would be to let him slide through a damp washcloth a few times. This'll often help loosen stuck shed if it isn't too extensive. His might be too bad for this, but it's worth a shot.

Also, RIs can be aggrevated by too LOW humidity too. So I really don't think a soak would hurt. Do you have a good herp vet? An exam to see if he's truly over the RI might be a good idea. And a vet can give you the best advice in this area... Good luck with him!

I don't think a good soak would bother him either. I also agree with the vet trip, better safe then sorry.

He really needs proper humidity. If it is to low you risk a great chance of getting the RI back than if you keep it at proper levels. What humidity do you have him at right now? Giving him a soak should not hurt him. How long ago did he have the RI?

x2. Lowering humidity is not a suitable treatment for an RI.

He is at 60 percent humidity now. It was lower yesterday but I decided to rasie it today after reading some of the reponses. He had the RI for over a month. I gave him a soak today and the old shed came off pretty easy. No mucus or weezing after the soak. He was acutally very active when I was moving him from enclosure to the soaking container. He seems very strong with decent weight to him. I'm hoping he comes through. He's growing on me.
