Where to glue probe?

I finally got myself a digital thermometer, and am setting up my BP's new 30 gal right now.

I've heard people say it's best to hot glue it somewhere around the hotspot. If I'm using a stick on heat pad, is it safe to hot glue it directly on the glass above the hotspot, or an inch or so off to the side?

I believe it is but I wanted to add on to your question. Is it safe to hot glue the probe directly? Would that effect the probe? OR where should you place the glue?

The thermostat probe should be directly on the UTH outside the tank, thermometer probe can be hot glued inside the tank on the floor directly over the hot spot. :)

Just keep in mind, if you glue it to the bottom and then cover it with bedding, the surface will be cooler than what thermometer is reading. If using news paper or paper towels wont affect the temps at all.

Thanks, both of you! :) I'm switching to paper towels because it's easier to clean and cheaper(aspen and other bedding where I live go for about $8 for the smallest bag); therefore I'll have no problem measuring temps in that regard. Again, I stress this is much appreciated.

Oh, yeah, is it safe to hot glue the cord? Or have you people used other solutions for laying it flat against the paneling? Just curious.

Personally i never put anything in the cage/tub.

Everything is attached outside directly to the flexwatt.

Well, if that's the case... Since it's safe to place the probe directly above the heat pad, would it be safe to say the wires are also heat resistant at that temperature, if say, I wanted to pack all the excess wire underneath the paper towels?

Wires wont melt as the copper inside and plastic around will take 180F+ to even show any signs of wear
