help ...mites...and no pam on hand
Ok long story short...been out of town about a month. Had a friend taking care of my
babies...well she thought she was doing something nice and wanted to surprise me with a new snake...and she did.....now the new snake and my other ten now have mites really bad
they have had them for a while.she didn't want to let the surprise out of the bag.
AND Guess what... all out of pam.. she used it for bug spray outside on a wasp nest..but gotta do something fast....I have seen other post
About other stuff being used.....please tell me other than pam....what will work
In an emergency situation ...cant wait for pam to be ordered and get here.....
And I know ...next time don't ask her lol...I am mad at her but she didn't know to quarantine
A new snake... and if it makes any difference ...I have 3adult red tail boas..2 adult balls..1 baby ball..3 hognose babies..1albino burm baby..and the new baby boa

I don't suggest using anything other than pam. I suggest until the PAM arrives, change all substrate to paper towels and soak each one daily in luke warm water with a drop of Dawn soap.

Soak all the the snakes, clean all enclosures & water bowls, you can pick up some lice bedding spray from Walyworld to lightly sray enclosures and surrounding areas, be sure to let it dry for at least 45 minutes to an hour, then replace water bowls & snakes. This will take care of the mites, you may have to retreat in a week or 2.

If no Provent-a-Mite Do this thoroughly using a alcohol/hot water, or bleach/hot water soak for steps 5 and 7. Rinse thoroughly. Best of Luck

Let soak for 30-45 mins. This will Sanitize.

I've had success with the Nix method, because PAM is extremely difficult to find in Canada and I had a mite outbreak right before a trip, I had no time to pick up other commercial mite spray.

What it is, is you go to your local drugstore and buy Nix conditioner, which is for human head lice. Then you get a gallon of distilled water and a spray bottle. You empty the tube of Nix into the water and mix it all up until it's homogeneous. Then you put some into the spray bottle. Spray on the snakes and the whole enclosure (but remove the water dish). I also removed the water dish for 24 hours so that the snakes don't soak before the Nix has had a chance to work on them. Then I repeated the treatment again two days later, and another one two days after that. I didn't see another mite after this :gj:

Forget the PAM. Go straight to whatever local pet shop or supply store sells the 'Reptile Relief' mite spray and use that. So gentle, it's basically harmless to your snakes, you can spray it (conservatively) right on them. You still have the same amount of work ahead of you, gonna take about a month to fully get rid of them. But the Reptile Relief takes the guesswork out of "Did I use to much and poison the snakes?" and is just as effective as PAM. Mites are stressful enough as is.

A whole month to eradicate, wow.
I have never had a problem using lice bedding spray, when treating enclosures. I do not treat my snakes with it, they only get soaks. I usually only have to treat once and the mites are eradicated.

Guess it depends on how thorough you are. I treat every week for 3-4 weeks to make sure the little bastards are GONE. Don't forget they do lay eggs. ;)
