Can you overlap heat tape?

I just built a rack, and I have 11 inch heat tape running down the back for back heat. In the tubs the temp is reaching about 88 degrees in the very back, would it be alright to overlap a second strip of heat tape down the back? So only half of the each strip would be overlapped. Does anyone see any problems with this?

First of all, why is your heat tape only reaching 88? Might be better to trouble shoot. Do you have any bends or kinks in the tape or wiring?

Don't overlap, it isn't needed. You have a problem somewhere else and I hope you find it, otherwise it could be a fire hazard. Good luck.


*Assuming you have a thermostat hooked up as well and are using a temp gun.

If your ambient temp is too cool the heat tape can only get so hot. Never overlap heat tape!
