Rescued neglected ball python update!

Yay, okay good news. The snake I got as a rescue which was kept in a dog carrier without any other elements, i.e. no heat etc, now has a nice new home.

Little info for those who didnt read old post, shes an adult, bout 4" long, she was fed only bout once every 6 weeks or less before I got her, and they were also very bad about giving her water :( , idiots should get animals.

Shes in a 55 gallon long which was given to me. Its a 48"x13"x20" tank which was given to me. Cleaned it out really good.

I was also given a fairly long UTH, which covers a little over 50% of the tank, and overhead hood which I have a normal 67 watt in one side, and a 60 something watt IR red bulb for night.

Today I got a good screen lid, some good clips to hold it down. For now until I'm able to get a good thermostat, I'm using a "lamp dimmer" to control the heat mat in case I need it. I got a hygrometer and 2 thermometers. I bought two good sized hides for her. I got her a big enough dish that she can fully soak in. I got reptibark substrate.

So anyways yeah, one sides been bout 75-80, the other bout 80-85, humidity is hanging bout 50%, I also got her a mouse today which she fed, so she is doing GREAT. Im going to take her to the vet in the next couple weeks, I suspect she has giardia, because well, apparently she gave it to me. Stupid amoeba. But yeah, that will soon be treated also.

80-85 seems a little low for the hot side, but regardless its great to hear that she's doing better.

That's so great to hear!!! :D

One suggestion I have... Until you get her back up to eating full size meals, try rat pups instead of mice. Not much bigger, but the pups have a higher fat content. I suspect her reserve is pretty low, as little as she was getting fed. So that'll help put some weight on her.

Glad she is doing well for you, as far as the giardia, good handwashing is important after handling reptiles.

Yeah, I know, I've always known this too, oddly enough, been handling herps since I was kid, feel pretty damn stupid catching it, but this has definitely been a solid lesson. I suppose if I caught anything from a reptile, this is the mildest and easiest to get killed, on flagyl right now for myself and no symptoms of it after a day. Worst part? Pills taste horrible lol
