    Wavy gene & loud pinkers
Recently I bought two breeders with the wavy gene. One is a himi female and the other is a beige male. I have no experience with the wavy gene but am I very excited to work with it. We have noticed that both wavys have bad eye sight. It seems they do more head weaving and treat dropping than other red/pink eye dilutes. We also purchased a blue from the same person and she does not suffer from impaired eye sight. She's just skittish lol.

Does anyone know if the wavy gene is connected to impaired eye sight or if this a possible line defect from the breeder?

My second question regards a litter thrown 4 days ago. The pinkers in this litter are loud mouths. The don't shut up...ever. They jet off when you try to touch them too. If they are showing these signs so early I'm going to assume they would best as food. What is your opinion on these types of litters?

Are you sure you got wavy, and not rex?

These guys don't appear to be rex. From what we've found online and talking to the breeder they fit wavy best. The breeder had both this type and rex in his lines and found that the genes are not the same. In comparison they have kinks and no curls, the whiskers are kinky and their fur appears thinner than a rex coat.

I would say it's much more likely to be a double rex, or perhaps velvetine. I'm fairly certain that wavy was renamed to something else, anyways, right?

But pics would be nice. :D

Their too old to be double rex and too rough to be velveteen. Ill get some pics tonight.

I have no idea what wavy is now.

Life has gone a little crazy here so I havent been able to get photos till now.

I have a great mom but she smells. She doesn't have parasites because Ive treated her several times but she always has the worst smelling poos. She's nursing a litter now and she's super stinky. Any ideas? She's on the same food as everyone else.

The pinkers are still loud and jetting everywhere, i've held them around the clock but it hasn't done much.

I also ordered some baytril tabs, besides the instructions given are there other methods?

Looks like plain rex to me. Does the gene behave differently or have you not bred them yet?

Yeah they gene is different. I've seen several crosses between a known rex line, a normal coat line and this line. When crossed back they make hairy patchworks. The original sire is from a California breeder. I have to find the website but were pretty sure they are wavy or a different rex mutation. Get this, when they get older (around a year) they loose hair in a back stripe during molts and grow it back. I can't wait for the girl to give birth.

Its possible its a thick haired rex line though.

You will be sending me some of these??
    (It's lou lou)
I got your message btw :) No worries

Pretty, Take a look at my mouse thread, I haven't gotten to send you any photos.

They look thicker than the rex I had. Did you get those from "my guy" or from somewhere else?

I'm used to the whiskers being more "crinkled" in the rex lines I was working with, rather than bent like yours.

Email me and catch me up on all the rat happenings.
