Poor charlie

We lost our spider male, charlie, today. He has had multiple RI's since we picked him up, been on several different rounds of meds and we thought he was over them. He had been clear for some time so we paired him with our normal female and after their 3rd lock we noticed the slight popping again. Afraid to do meds again, we bumped his temps and hoped he would pull through, we agreed that if he wasn't better this week, we'd take him back to the vet. Unfortunately, he won't make his appointment.

My only solace is that my female is showing signs that she may have taken.

He will be sorely missed.

The female was with him when he was sick?
Have you thought about her maybe getting sick too and maybe needing to get her to the vet now?

What is the timeline your talking about, females take quite a while to become gravid?

We noticed his RI signs again when they were on break, a longer than usual one at that. He had been removed from her tub for about a week because he was about to shed then we moved him away from everyone else when he started the popping back up. She is not acting in any way ill and I'm not so sure RI's are even infectious between snakes.

They locked 3 times this summer.

Depends on if it was viral or bacterial. Keep an eye on her.

Sorry about your spider. At least you gave him a chance.

It seems like if you went to a vet you would know what type of infection the snake had and if it was transferable or not :confused:

He was at the vet for an RI long ago, he said it wouldn't be a problem with my other snakes. We did rounds of antibiotics, he was well, we paired him, he showed signs again, we removed him from the rack and bumped his temps, he had another appointment for the vet and passed away.

I get it, you are concerned for my other animals but I would prefer if you didn't make me feel WORSE about my dead pet. :colbert:

I'm not sure if you have ever had a snake with recurring RI's but even after he was swabbed and prescribed meds, he would come right back down with them.

How sad. It's very hard to see an animal be given every chance and they still pass. Unfortunately when its destined to happen sometimes there's no helping and fixing. It was his time. I'm sorry.

Thank you. After 3 rounds of different shots I couldn't even imagine losing him. We put more time and care into him and made sure everything was spot on. To come home and find him was heartbreaking.
