Best Heating Method for a Cold House
So my house temp usually stays somewhere between 68-72.

I've got a new Hog Island purchased and it will be shipping in 2 weeks.

I have plenty of heat lamps, under tank heaters, and aquariums.

If you had to choose an enclosure and the best heating option, what would you choose?

...I'm leaning towards buying a 421 Boaphile with a radiant heat panel.

Good choice? Will a radiant heat panel raise ambient temp?

Here in Canada I have the same problem every winter I use a glass aquarium with a heating pad under one side and weak 75 watt night heat light over about the middle to keep the cool end at the right temp.

Why not heat the room with a oil heater?

Yes, an RHP would be the perfect choice. It will raise your ambient temp and hot spot. I use RHPs in all of my cages.

421 is a nice unit and will get the job done nicely. They are also stackable so you can add another for your next purchase...

BTW, I suggest 80 watt panels for four foot cages. I buy mine from Reptile Basics.

Switching from an aquarium to an acrylic will make a world of difference in terms of maintaining temps to begin with.

I am currently using flexwatt for my cages in addition to a small space heater that goes on for a few hours in the mornings during winter. However, I have heard great things about RHPs and yes, from what I understand they do function to increase ambient temps.
