Man-Eating Super Snake

I've watched this program on Animal Planet 3-4 times now. In my opinion it's absolutely ridiculous. But I was wondering, does anyone believe that it is possible for African Rock Pythons and Burms to breed and maintain a stable population?

IMO, no. If I remember correctly, NERD did a project with hybridizing AfRocks and burms and the results were somewhat disappointing - the animals weren't "all there", if you know what I'm saying. I believe there were some that were more agressive, but they were all kind of sickly in one way or another.

Either way, I honestly believe it's a load of ****. Just because people are afraid of them doesn't mean that they're going to hybridize, become insane and eat people in the everglades. I think people should honestly relax about all of this and just try to fix the problem at hand, instead of crying about it and throwing out theories.

I would say it is possible, they have made the reticulated african rock python and the Burmball. I have heard it has been done and this was a result ( I do not personally know I did not make it)

As far as it being man killing etc... Any large snake could kill a man but the ridiculous thought that breeding the two will cause for the size of one and attitude of the other is ridiculous. ( this is just my thought)

Yeah, it says that they have mated and there has been a hybrid produced in captivity.

I've seen that show too. It's ridiculous.

I saw that crap as well. I thought a channel like Animal Planet should be more concerned with educating people more than sensationalizing bogus junk.:mad:

Animal Planet got hijacked by PeTA/ HSUS some time after Steve Irwin past. Since his passing, they've done mostly hysterical, over-dramatic, and misleading shows. They're attention-getting, but not very factual.

Burm- African rock hybrids have been done in captivity, but the likelyhood of them being able to sustain a breeding population in the wild is outrageous. What are they going to do? Go out in search of a mate of the other species,when what makes them a species is NOT hybridizing? Most animals will stick to their own species unless they're desparate and there's no one else of their species. Besides, ehat are the chance of enough desparate Burms finding enough desparate African rocks (and vice versa) who just happen to be healthy and both old and large enough to breed?

Also, to you guys who have experience with the hybrids themselves, could you ellaborate on them being "off"/ more aggressive? Do you think they'd be able to function outside of a captive environment? How's their fertility? What kind of sickness where they getting?

All shows like that do is get my blood pressure up and start me ranting so I've stopped watching them. For being all about large pythons, they sure show a lot of balls and boas on there.

no, its as stupid and rediculous as that Killer Aliens show that i saw tonight, they went over burmese, rocks, and the all terrifying super vicious new man eating nile monitor lol, so stupid
oh yeah and in their defense they stated that the nile is related to the komodo, as if that makes any difference
