where to buy a light timer

over the years I've burned through a few analog and digital timers, as well as a zilla 'power center' that crapped out after only a few months, and I was looking for input regarding how most people set light cycles to run automatically. i.e. are there timers you would recommend, do you mistrust any of the commercial products, etc.

at the moment it's not a huge concern because only my GTPs have lights in their enclosures, but eventually I will purchase a few display cages, and I hate worrying about the lights inadvertently clicking on in the middle of the night. (before I tossed it in the garbage, the zilla power center would randomly reset itself and switch the daytime and nighttime settings, which caused a bit of stress to my adult GTP).

You can get a timer almost any where, walmart, home depot etc...but I did see a power strip with timers built in at petsmart.i wanna say it was around 30 thou. you can get a reg.timer for alot less .i got a cheap one on my 240 fish tank and worked fine for me.

I've used the cheapo analog timers from home depot for lighting my planted vivs. Not a single one has stopped working in over 2 years.

that petsmart power strip was the one that malfunctioned on me, so I'm not inclined to get another one. I've used home depot timers before when I kept bearded dragons, but they never seemed to last long. basically I'm just looking for alternative ideas that I haven't thought of. I'm not opposed to using hardware store timers again, but I am just unaware if there are other options.

I got mine at home depot for like $15 a piece, and I can set the timer to any times I want.

I get my timers at my local dollar store. 2$ cant beat that.

I use the Zilla power center... Have had the same one for two years, no issues. Only thing I ever had to do was change out the watch battery in it once. Maybe you got a faulty one? :confused:

If you want something else, best advice I have is to find a saltwater fish store in your area. The timers they sell there (also known as digital reef keepers) are bullet proof. Usually always made in Japan. They're very solid, as a failure from one of those can kill $10k+ reef tank in a matter of hours.
