Albino Spider Genetics Question
So I've heard that in order to produce albino spiders one of the parents has to be a spider, whether that parent is an albino spider or a normal spider that is het for albino. I purchased two albino ball pythons and their clutch was half albino spiders. I was wondering if it was possible to breed them together to produce albino spiders?
Im still trying to fully understand genetics here so I hope that this doesn't come across as a stupid question...
Thanks! :)
Re: Albino Spider Genetics Question
Here are the possible paired parents you need to produce spider albino
pair1: Albino x spider (het albino)
pair2: spider (het albino) x normal (het albino)
I don't think if I hit your question: albino x albino = albino; even they have clutch of albino spider. albino was recessive and spider was dominant.
Re: Albino Spider Genetics Question
Ok so here goes nothing...
The Albino gene is recessive, which means both parties need to have a copy of the albino gene however since the Spider gene is co-dominant you only need one copy of the gene so here are 2 examples, the rest isn't rocket science:
Spider het Albino x Albino
Spider het Albino x Normal het Albino
What ever you do, both sides need to have the Albino gene however only one spider gene is required.
So if you breed Spider x Albino you'd end up with Spider het Albino babies, hope I cleared up some stuff for you...

In short no..you can't produce albino spiders buy just breeding two albino's together. you'll need a spider albino or spider het albino to produce albino spiders..
Hope that helps

The jury is still out. No one has reported a snake with a pair of spider mutant genes. So all we can say for sure is that spider is not a recessive mutant gene.

As long as spiders have been around I think it is safe to say dom, not co-dom;)

That is correct, The Spider gene is dom not co-dom, my mistake. Please look into all genes when creating morphs, some spiders and known to have what's called a wobble, another known defective gene would be caramels which are known to have kinks, whether it's greatly visible or just the tip of the tails, a kink is a kink... so breed wisely...
