Wine cooler incubator question

I am going to be picking up a wine cooler this weekend for a future incubator. I have called around to several appliance shops to find out how much it would be to evacuate the freon. Every place I have called said "sorry we don't do that" I had one place say "just cut the line" lol... I really didn't want to cut the line, my luck I will have the feds at my house within 10min..

So... now what??

Could you just take out the whole compresser?

you can't just remove the compressor. usually there is a line that goes into the cooler that you cannot take out unless you dismantle the entire thing.

take it to an auto AC place. they can do it.

UMMMMMM No.
Auto is R134 or old R12

Household units are R410 or R22 or R402 or R113 and so on

They are not compatable and the guys at the auto shop will laugh at you.

Now some of the newer appliances are starting to use R134 BUT they use a different oil in them that doesnt work in the automotive field so they still wont take it and contaminate their supply.;)

I called around finally found a place that works on air conditioners that will do it but I have to bring in it (not a problem) and they want $120 to do it... Really??

I have priced at higher than that. You could just build something else and not bother messing with it.

worth a shot. with the R134 replacing the R12 i figured they would have tanks that they dump R12 in for disposal.

I use a dorm frigde, I didn't disconnect anything.

Look for the tag on the inside and see if you can identify the freon in it
