    Glass Fish Tank?
    Hi all,

I was wondering, what size glass aquarium would an adult ball python need? I currently have a 29 gallon tank, but I've seen conflicting statements about that being an appropriate size.

    Thanks! :D

It has more to do with dimentions than anything. You can have a 40 gallon tank thats very tall, and it won't be enough room for a ball python. From what i understand a tank that is about 3 feet long and 2 feet deep is enough space for an adult female. This is also too much space for a hatchling or juvenile. Also tall tanks won't hold your humidity properly and you will be in a constant struggle to keep it high enough. When all is said and done BP's CAN be kept in converted aquariums but they are really not ideal. I would sell it if I were you, and invest in a proper snake enclosure.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers.

That size should be fine. 30 inches long should be long enough for an adult.
Petco is having a dollar a gallon sale now. I am going to pick up a 20 long.
Alot of people recommend using plastic tupperware as well, and drilling holes etc.
Good luck, and there is a ton of info on here about enclosures in Husbandry area.

Humidity can be a strugle in an aquarium I just covered 2/3 with a peice of Plexi with holes drilled in it worked great. So it can work if the size is Ok

Yeah, anything that's longer instead of taller is what you want. You'll probably be buying two in the long run if you plan on acquiring anything other then an adult bp, so if that tank is 29 long, then you're in business.

Those glass tanks make great display tanks, be sure to post some pics of the finished product! And just as others have said, humidity isn't as easy to maintain in one, but covering it properly along with some good substrate will easily fix that. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I don't have the snake now, and I don't know when I will be able to get one. I currently have a 13 year old - 16 inch pleco living in the tank. But when that is empty I was planning on cleaning it and putting a snake in it. I'll be sure to take pictures when that time does come. :D

I think Petco or Petsmart is still having there dollar a gallon sale that is when i buy all my tanks :) cause 20 bucks for a 20 long cant be beat with a stick. Here are a few pics of how I have my setup I covered the Plexi with foil tape later to keep heat in better winter gets a little chilly in Everett WA but they both are holding humidity well. I like to watch my snake when he is out so prefer the aquarium set up so I hope this helps

I think, but am not sure, that Petsmart doesn't have a dollar per gallon sale. And there are no Petco's around here. :(

Even if they don't advertise the sale around there, check online and see if other stores are doing it. Often times they'll price match themselves if they're doing a big type of sale at another one of their own stores.

Yeah, I wasn't able to find anything about a sale online. And I just measured the length and width of the tank - 30in. x 12in.
