Mother Donates Kidney To Son, Lose Job
Really? Within their rights or not, that was a jerk move. I hope this lady gets picked up quick by a company with a heart.

    http://www.foxnews.com/health/2011/0...son-loses-job/

A Philadelphia mother was left jobless Tuesday after she took time off work to donate a kidney to her dying son and was fired during her absence.

Claudia Rendon did not hesitate when doctors delivered the news that her son Alex was in desperate need of a life-saving kidney transplant and offered him her kidney, myFOXphilly.com reported.

But she had already used up her vacation time at the Aviation Institute of Maintenance, in northeast Philadelphia, earlier in the year following the death of her mother and uncle and her father's diagnosis with leukemia.

Randon said, "Everything was coming down all at once. I felt like the best thing that happened to me this whole entire year was that God gave me the blessing of being able to give my son my kidney."

Through it all, Rendon showed up to work but needed a leave of absence to donate her kidney to her son.

Before Rendon left, she said her boss made her sign a paper, saying her job would not be guaranteed, and late last week -- just as she was preparing to return to work -- her employers told her they had hired someone else.

Rendon's former boss refused to comment and a company representative said it was in its legal rights to let Rendon go as the Family Medical Leave Act, which covers an employee for 12 weeks leave, does not apply to companies with under 50 employees.

But her son believes the decision is a heartless one

"She saved my life basically," he said. "Who else can say their mom gave them life two times?"

If the story is true, that is pretty heartless, but then again business in general is.

But this is also fox news reporting, so its pretty hard to believe the story doesn't have some flawed facts somewhere.

True or not, this is where she screwed up. They are 100% within their rights if they are under 50 employees, and because she signed this.

Wow. I can't believe people can be so cruel. It's not like the economy is booming.

Fox is infinitely better than Left Wing biased CNN or CNBC.

Hoping the best for this loving, courageous mother!

I think the Aviation Institute of Maintenance screwed up here.

Whether or not they could legally terminate this woman or not, firing a woman because she saved her son's life does not play well in the court of public opinion. That is the sort of stupidity that leads to bad publicity, picketing, boycotts, newspaper articles, newscasts, etc.

Sometimes even if you can legally do something rotten, doing the right thing is a whole lot easier and less painful.

I've never understood this thinking. Fox News is no more flawed than CNN or MSNBC or any other news organization.

    *sigh* I miss knoxville!

There has to be more to the story than this. Is this person a complete pain in the ass, not sure when it happened, but it is Sept and you are already out of time (vacation, sick, and personal)??? I'm sure they would not have filled the position if she was a valued employee

With two deaths in the family and a father being diagnosed with leukemia, this could easily happen, especially if she had taken some vacation before these deaths/illnesses occurred.

More on this story, and not from Fox-- http://abcnews.go.com/Business/phila...ry?id=14508627

thats messed up, if its true, i hope every employee there boycotts that place, and also who would take that job knowing that the person your replacing was fired for that reason? even if they didnt know when they took the job im sure they found out soon enough afterward
