A question about my dog...kind of embarrasing actually
My beagle/boxer mix female has just started on a new food for having allergies. She has been on it for a little over a week. Her excrement is very hard feeling when I go to clean it up and is kind of green in color. She also seems to have a case of gas when she is passing her excrement. She acts normal like her usual goofy and playful self. Has anyone ever experienced this with any of their dogs before? If it persists, then I think a vet visit is in order.

It's most likely the food causing this. She could have a sensitive stomach and The new food is causing issues.

Thank you for the quick response! I was thinking it was probably the food but I wanted to get others opinions also.

a couple things, how did you go about switching her? was it all at once or did you blend the old and new foods together? Is the protein level in the new food higher or lower than the old food? How long has she been passing this new version of her waste?

Changing food can cause all sorts of weird things gas and change in look/feel of waste are common things. You mentioned she has allergies and that is the reason for the switch is it possible the allergies were effecting her bowel movements before and the "new" ones are actually more healthy ones that you are not used to?

It doesnt sound like anything to be too worried about I would call my vet if it really worried me, if only for peace of mind.

I mixed her old food with the new food. The food was prescribed by my vet for my dog because she has food allergies. Her bowel movements used to be much softer in consistency and now they are just hard. I think I will be contacting my vet about this just for the sake of the dog.

Is it actually helping the allergies? Okay, the vet would probably say you won't know conclusively for a couple weeks at least. But if it IS helping the allergies, and she's basically fine except for the green poop, just leave her on it.
