Just found out today that the army is either making me change my job or get out if the army. Needed to vent because I can't sleep.

Re: What the help
That does suck, but at least you're being given a choice. When the Air Force RIFs, guys in the wrong career fields are simply outa luck.

I won't say much to the big picture as it will only get this thread moved...
It is complete and utter horse feathers that our military men and women are being treated this way. I have a friend in the Navy who works in surveillance who has been in for 10 years and has had every intention of being a lifer, they just told him that he can't re-class and they wont know until the end of November ( Thanksgiving) when his enlistment is up if they will let him re-up in his MOS. I also have a buddy who is a Helicopter mechanic in the Army who they won't let him re-class or re-up. The crappy part of it is he has been fighting to stay in for the last two years due to an injury that has finally healed and he got back with his unit, very excited about getting back into service.
I understand that this country is having financial problems but cutting our military while there are so many leaches sucking this country dry is infuriating!

I completely agree. I am Damn good at my job. My brigade csm and commander know me by name because of what I do for th unit. I work my but off everyday and I always volunteer for deployments extra duties etc. I also have a wife and daughter that I don't get to see that much because of it.
This has opened my eyes and I think I will be Getting out if they will just toss hard workers anew good soldiers aside.

MOS = Military Occupation Specialty (job code)
25u = Signals Support Systems Specialist
RIF = Reduction in Force

Re: What the help
I agree that it sucks, but it's not a new phenomenon. When we first got into the military twenty years ago, there were huge RIFs going on. There have ALWAYS been career fields that get over-manned or outdated and budgets that get cut.
It breaks my heart to see well deserving people getting forced out of something they love, but this happens everywhere, in all walks of life...civilian or military...corporate or private.

i know how u feel brother. I served in iraq as a 21B (Combat Engineer) as part of a route clearance company. My knee got messed up in an IED (improvised Explosive) attack on our MRAP (mine resistant ambush protected) vehicle. I bumped down to guards for the last few months of my 6 year contract becouse of the bull i was havin to put up with. It will get better brother. You would be surprised how much fun u can have as a civilian lol. I added the acronym definitions for masonc2k
