Curved In Rib Cage Near The Tail???
I recently hatched out an OG x Het OG clutch and I noticed one of the hets rib cage is curved in on one side more than the other, near the tail. There's no kink in the spine just the curved in rib cage. I hatched out 2 hets last year from the same sire with the same exact deformity so I know I'm not imagining it. Last year it was 2 out of 5 snakes that hatched with this same condition. This year I bred the same sire to a different dam and it's only 1 out of 3 snakes with it, the other 2 are perfect. Both year I had the egg box set up exactly the same, hatch rite with light grate on top. What I want to know is has anyone ever seen this before? Do you think it's possibly genetic or could it have something to do with the method in which the eggs were incubated? BTW last year the male and female were completely unrelated. However, this year its possible the female may have been related to the male but both were hatched from different clutches.

well looks like i has to do something with your male. kinda looks like their spines are twisted of something for the ribs to do that. very odd

odd somewhat related question, what are the sexes on the curved in babies? and the non curved in ones?

That is pretty weird. I am too new to have experienced something like that yet. What temp are you incubating at? Have you had other clutches in the same incubator from different parents? Were those clutches healthy.

If it is genetic it is being carried by the male since clutches from a possibly related and non related female had the same spine twisting in the offspring. I guess the related offspring would probably carry the same genes even though they do not visual show the twist.

The Spines are perfectly normal it's just the rib cage that's concave on one side

I only have one of the normal (un-curved) babies from last year, I sold one to a friend and the other to a local pet store for store credit.

Last year a female and male had the curved condition, the 3 that were non-curved were 1 female and 2 males. This year I haven't gotten them sexed yet, they are too small for me to feel comfortable doing it myself.

I incubate at 87 degrees these are my only 2 clutches i used same incubator same egg box. And its the ribs not the spines that are deformed

Last year I thought maybe it happened because the eggs were too close together but then again I've seen many people that have their eggs stuck together and indenting each other much more than that. This year I thought maybe it was the side of the light grate I was using that was flattening out the eggs and causing the deformity but also then again if that were the case all the babies would have the same condition. Plus many people use light grate and you'd think if that were the problem you'd see something like this more often. Does anybody know if the indentation of an egg during incubation can cause the rib cage to curve-in like it has here?

Does anybody know if it's possible that this deformity could be the result of the eggs being too flat on the bottom during incubation??? If not I'm guessing this has to do with the Male's genetics...
