More holes?

Last night when I went to bed my AcuRite was reading 70% humidity. I just checked a few minutes ago and it is at 82%, with no condensation. Should I add a couple more holes?

I just don't want to over-do it and end up with lower humdity.

You can add a few more holes. Your humidity isn't that bad as long as there is no dripping condensation.

The first question is what is the room humidity?

What are you doing in the tub to raise humidity? (water dish is where? substrate?)

How many holes are there?

Have you checked the accurite to see if it is reading correctly? I have found the hygrometer they have to be poor and quite in accurate. (off by 10% or more on 3 different units)

No matter how many holes you have, your humidity is going to fluctuate with the ambient humidity of your location. So long as you don't have any condensation building up....I'd give it a couple of weeks to see how much it changes with different weather patterns. If it holds steady above 70%, then I'd add some more holes. Ideally, you'd want your average humidity to be between 50%-60%. But I wouldn't worry too much about daily ups and downs.

I have a 3" ceramic waer dish on the cool side, 4 holes on each side of the tub. Room humidity was reading around 55% with the unit, what do you suggest as a better way to measure the humidity. I have a temp gun so I really have no need for the probe and such...plus the probe is reading at like 107 degrees when in reality it's around 90 with my temp gun which is more accurate. Should I replace the unit with something else? Again, what do you suggest?

Also, my room is quite humid by itself, as I have a 55 gallon fish tank running with no hood so the water evaporates into my room, which I have to keep the door closed because my dogs like to get into my stuff.

No, the accurite is ok, just check it, if you want to do that right use a salt test (google it, it is simple) or a dirty test is to place the probe folded in a damp cloth it should read into the 90 % range. If it was grossly off I'd then think on a new one.

Personally I'd add holes. With a fish tank you likely see in the mid 50% range most of the time in that room. It doesn't take much to add 5-10% extra. Some snakes shed fine at 55% most are good at 60% you could just keep yours at 50% all the time and mist a bit when shed sign shows up. More ventilation simply can't cause too many problems in that situation too little ventilation can, if you are to have a problem I'd go too much than too little. Bad shed vs potential RI.

I added 2 more holes on each side and cut off the probe as I don't need it. The humidity is down to 72% when I left.
