Trying new method of switching Question

So I'm going to try feeding my pickiest ball python a live rat pup first and then give him a frozen thawed small rat. But what do I do with the rat pup if my ball python doesnt eat it? Do I kill it and freeze it for my other f/t eaters?

Just throw it in the freezer mammals just fall asleep its painless simple and you dont have to "thump" it

but then you get a bloody mess... take a pair of tongs and squeeze around its chest will work. I guess though freezing it maybe a bit more humane and easier

As far as I know, if you freeze (and thaw too) in a vertical position, with their 'nose' upwards, you won't have a bloody mess

if there live you can't just keep them in a certin way though.

I personally think "thumping" is the way to go. Or you can hold it's head down with a ruler and pull it's body up to break it's neck.
I've been trying to switch Jackson to f/t, or even just freshly killed, but he is not interested. But he's never turned down a live rat...
Forgive me if I missed this in your post, but what are you switching from? Mice?

does you snake currently eat live? or F/T? if you are feeding F/T mice just scent the rat with the mouse and pre-scent the room with a mouse and feed the rat. I have not had a refusal this way. The following times just not as much, a rub with the mouse and no pre scent... until you get to just rat.

Don't try to do too much at once switch f/t or mouse rat not both at the same time.
