    Moss and humid hides
My ball python is going into shed and i wanted to try something different to help keep the humidity up. i saw somewhere that it can b more effective and more convinient to put terrarium moss under a hide. whats the best way to do this to avoid mildew, belly rot, and other nasty things that come with a constantly damp factor in the tank? if it works it would b very helpful. with college starting and working a fulltime job, this time of year is always busy for me

I actually used to use humid hide in addition to the regular hides just a small container with a lid and a hole in the side (don't use a closed hole always open an arch agains the side.) and use damp moss inside it the snake will come and go as it needs.

Oh and rot is caused by wet damp conditions and bacteria keep things clean use you nose moss should be well mossy smelling fresh clean earthy don't let it get musty or rotten smelling.

good to know, I have been thinking of using a humid hide during the shed.

how much moss is to much moss ?

is a plastic container with a hole in the side the best route to go? or are there better options for a moss hide?

Too much is when there isn't room for the snake. Any opaque container will do I don't like having a close hole (one in the middle of cover or side) I like U holes on the edge (where the cover meets side) in case after a meal the snake gets stuck any amount of thrashing will release the cover and the snake is free. past that anything will do.
