Hopefully getting a pacman soon..

So i have two or three empty 10 gallons laying around and i have been thinking about getting a pacman frog.:banana: Right now I just have a ball python, but from what i've heard pacmans are super easy to care for. I have a few questions though, heat or no heat? and also is there actually a % humidity they need or just really moist/wet?
Sorry if this has already been covered. I've been reading mixed things about care for pacmans.

They are AWESOME!!

They don't need much heat but I've noticed mine likes to have one small area a little warm! Honestly just having him near a heat source used for another cage warms him up nice, and he'll sit there after he eats, but we already have a warm reptile room so it doesn't take much for us. If you use an undertank heater because you have a cold house, don't put it under the tank. They burrow to escape heat. Put it on the side or something.

They need a good bit of humidity, but if you keep it a frog-like enclosure it's not that hard. We pre soaked eco earth and squeezed excess water out for substrate and he has a big shallow bowl. He lives in a tub and we haven't had to mist him at all since our last substrate change, and he stays at a good humidity. You will know if it isn't humid enough. They'll soak a lot, bury themselves, and stop eating. Dryness makes them go into a hibernation type state.


You'll find that they don't soak much, but they should have a dechlorinated water bowl if they decide to. Ours is a VERY private animal and actually has issues eating in front of us so we have to give him a lot of cover in his cage. He used to be in a tank but couldn't handle the clear glass(and humidity was a pain) so we moved him to a big sterilite tub where he has some fake plants he hides under and a water bowl. He usually buries himself between the plant and the bowl in between feedings. When they want food they'll come out to play, it's super cute! Mine's big enough to eat pinkies now, but we haven't tried that yet. We have a picky eater, it was hard enough getting him to eat anything other than crickets(and when they get super big...crickets are expensive!)

Just know your frog :) keep him moist with dechlorinated water, feed him lots of food, and check for signs of illness.

Hmm, i really want one but i might have to wait until next year. I'm in college and in a dorm hall and can't keep crickets around :(

Yeah they eat often as babies. Every two days is good. I never had the need to keep crickets around, he would eat them all, lol! As they get older they eat more but they eat less often. Ours only is interested in food every 4-5 days. I know someone with a 4 year old pacman who only eats every week or two.

Oh that's cool, in that case i don't have time to go to the pet store every 2 days :(
I guess it will have to wait a while. I may go with a crested gecko for now since they are so easy to care for/feed.

Crested geckos are great too. Honestly, I think they are the perfect dorm reptile! Crested Gecko Diet..Cute faces.. Low temps..what's not to love?? :D

That's what i was thinking too :P
I was just holding out hope for a pacman, guess that will be put on the waiting list for now. Im gonna go to repticon in ATL in october so i guess we will see if i come back with a crested. :)
