    I need suggestions
My girl had a liter almost 2 weeks ago. Should I wait to breed her again after the pups are ready to leave her, or should I try now? She is very protective of her lier and has almost bitten me once. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I believe your only window for breeding is right after she gave birth and then not until the pups are weaned.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You are right, females go back into heat right after birth. Your chance is gone until her litter is weaned. If she has tried to bite you once I suggest against breeding her again. She will most likely get worse with each litter. Just saying...

I was going to say to hold back a female, breed her again in 3-4wks and see how her attitude is then. If it's the same, when the babies are weaned retire her and by then her first offspring will be ready.

Thanks for the info. I'll hold off until this litter is weaned and see if she'll try and bite me again.

Since rats go into heat every 5 days and it's been 14 days you could throw her with a male for 2-3 hours and see if she's in heat, if so the male will be all over her chasing her till she gives in.
If she's not in heat she will resist all advances by the male.

I prefer to give them the time off until weaning the babies.
I agree with biting moms, unless you NEED the food from her then I'd hold back and raise some babies up and feed her off or adopt her out.
