taking a bath?

So last night I found my BP had submerged himself in his water dish. His tank tank was normal and humidity was normal as well. So I took him out and checked him over--things looked good, nothing odd. So I left the room, came back in, and he had covered himself in some of his moss/substrated that was loose (this is under one of the larger hides he doesn't use a lot.

So I wake up this morning and he is back in his dish again-- not fully submerged-- head is above the water this time.

Any help on this would be great!

What are your hot side temps? If your temps are normal I would not worry about the snake soaking. It could just be time for the snake to shed.

on the hot side under the light its about 85-90 depending how well the AC is working in my room, the humidity is always about 60-80% and the cool side is approx 70-75 (i live in the desert so the heat here murders my attempts to keep a bigger difference in hot and cool) He just finished a shed about 2-3 weeks ago and I cleaned the cage out completely after, it was a good shed too. I've had this snake since June and it's never soaked before.

Have you checked the snake for mites? If it is not mites, then try not to worry to much. Some snakes just soak for no apparent reason.

i looked the snake over and didnt see anything odd or that appeared to be mites. checked around the head and down the scales, but nothing like pictures ive seen. if it continues through the weekend ill make an appt to take it to the vet to be checked for sure.

Well, it is good that you found no mites. I really don't see the necessity for a vet at this point but if it makes you feel better, then by all means go ahead and do so.

Mine do that sometimes. God only knows what goes on in those pea-sized brains of theirs. They don't have mites, the temps check out OK, they don't particularly do it when they're in shed and they don't all do it at the same times.

I think that sometimes they just plain feel like doing it.
