This Quarantine Thing

Ok I read the sticky, and I'm quarantining the 2 new snakes from Daytona. It's been almost 2 weeks. Is 6 weeks enough? Even the sticky doesn't tell me what I'm looking for? Is it just RI and mites?

QT for RI, mites, scale rot, internal parasites etc.
No six weeks is not long enough imo, a minimum of 12 weeks is good.

I do 3 months. Yeah, it's mostly about mites and RI, but there's also IBD. And IBD can hide for several months. To be really safe you'd want to wait 6 months, but I usually break down after 3 as long as everyone's healthy.

(Oh, and flagellates are really common. But those are passed via water bowls, and you'll know by 3 months if somebody's got them. )

Ok I'll hold out for 3 months, they are in our guestroom. I guess thats one way to keep the company away...

Hahaha, I thought snakes were the way to keep out the unwanted. Now I know you need to breed roaches to really keep people out.

As the above stated, 3 months is a perfect amount of time!

Ok I have a kinda well noob feeling again but what are flagellates. Oh yeah and BTW I have learned way more about Ball Pythons here than in any book thanks guys and gals of BP.net

Add disease to that list.
Had a friend get a little Ratsnake last Oct at a show, it passed away in Dec from crypto (necropsy). Since he has lost 3 more, and now has all his collection separated and individualy quarantined. He's so frustrated and discouraged that his entire collection might be infected he can't replace any, he can't even give away his remaining collection.

Ibd can take even longer to show up.

For me quarantine and purchase comes down to several factors, but I won't do rescues or Craigslist animals, I will only get my animals from established reputable breeders.

There is no acceptable amount of time to wait for IBD. It can be carried by an asymptomatic snake for an indeterminate amount of time.

Do your fecals, prophylactically treat for mites and QT for 6 months. Understand however that you can't rule out IBD with a QT.
