Soaking?

Ophion is in shed and his eyes are almost clear, but he has been in his soaking dish since at least 3 a.m. (maybe longer but that's when I noticed him in it) It's 12:30 p.m. here now. Should I leave him in it or get him out? I just want to make sure it wont hurt him to stay in it for so long at a time.

I only own one ball and she has honestly never soaked in her bowl before, so i may be of little help but ill try. i usually keep humidity high and mist 2-3x's per day for the 7days it usually takes from the time i notice her colors dull to when she finishes shedding. Perhaps if you try misting the cage Ophion wont feel required to soak so much, Ive also read where bathing her in 2-3inches of lukewarm water for 15-20min should help also.

I'd leave her be, she's soaking for a reason. I'd check your humidity and check for mites in the water just in case. No need to assist her with shedding, let it take it's own coarse then worry about it if she has a bad shed.

I have several snakes that soak when in shed. Also many of my females will soaks for 3 weeks when appraching ovulation. It has helped me time exactly when to look for the OV and I have captured many on camera, both soaking and ovulating. So don't worry about your snake.

The only time I would worry is if there is possibilty of mites and that is the reason for soaking but if she is in shed its totally normal. I have seen it many many times.

about 4 of mine like to soak and yes i check for mites but i just think they like to get in the water and i do have one that always no matter what i do has a bad shed...at this point i just spray his tub and him to raise the humidity and then a few minutes later he gets the full shed problem solved. I have never had to put a snake in a tub with water or nothing but im sure it helps....good luck

Thanks a lot guys. He shed last night. YAY!!!!! It wasn't a one piece shed but I looked him over real well this morning and I only saw one spot that didn't come off. It was a really tiny spot in the center of his back. Even his heat pits shed perfectly. LOL That's two major mile stones down in the first two weeks of ownership so I just might be able to get this thing down yet. :D
