do BP's need light at all?
I know that they're nocturnal and such but is it ok for them to not get light at all? Or is it better to expose them to some kind of light everyday? My BP is in the basement and barely gets sunlight at all if any, would it be better then if I get a light fixture for her?

She should get daylight hours yes.
8-12 hours of light is i believe is a good guidline. Just open up some blinds in the basement should work better.
If your going to get a lighted top for her cage she does not need UV lights.

I will have the same dilema when I qt my new snake for 3 months - she will be in our basement which isn't dark during the day but it sure isn't bright.

Would leaving a light on during the day serve the purpose.

Why not get a lamp and one of those cheap light timers from walmart? It will kick the light off and on in set intervals.
