    Question about breeding hets
I am completely new to breeding Ball Pythons. So I have a question. If I were to breed a 66% het Pied to a 66% het Pied is there any chance I would get a Pied Ball Python? Thank you for the responses. Hets are still a little confusing to me. And is there a good sourse that anyone can recommend to read on this subject so I can learn more? Thanks again.

you have to keep in mind that you have 66% hets so there is a chance that one or both dont carry pied in them at all;)

BTW I love world of ball pythons:D

There is zero chance of making pieds unless both parents prove to be 100% hets and then you have a 1 in 4 chance per egg.

It depends, for you to produce a Pied both would need to prove out for you, however since there is only 66% chances that those are actually Het Pied it could take you YEARS of breeding before hatching something out if you even do (1 might be a het and the other be normal or both could be normals)

While I do not mind proving out Possible Het females (I have a few I produced and held back and I have also purchased an entire clutch of possible het females) I would not however try to prove out a possible het male and would definitely not try to prove out possible het females with a possible het male.

What I would do to prove out the possible females would be to use a visual or at worse a 100% het which at their current value would be better than a possible het. (even with a 100% het it could take years to prove out)

66% het means there is only a 66% chance of it actually being het for pied or any other recessive gene. You have to prove them out to he het first!

THEN - you have a 100% proven het. Then you would see the odds already posted. .25 normal, .50 het (so 2/3rds of normal looking offspring will be het ... 2/3 = 66% ...hence your 66% het)
and .25 will actually show the recessive gene.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the information. I understand that 66% het means that they have a 66% chance of having the gene for Pied:) These 2 snakes were cheap enough that I figured that for my first try at breeding it wouldn't be a bad thing to try them out.:D The calculator was very helpful thank you.

A 66% het has nothing to do with the percentage of their babies will have the piebald, but the chance that the snake is carrying the pie bald gene at all. Technically your snake is 0% or 100% het, you cannot be partially heterozygous - 66% refers to the fact that both parents were 100% het but this normal baby came out, and since you cant see the her gene in normals the breeder calculated a 66% CHANCE that the snake is carrying the pie bald gene.

Basically, buying a "poss(ibly) het" animal is a gamble, as they are cheaper than 100% hets
