How deep were you when you got that guy? All the trout lakes here in MN get real difficult to fish at the height of summer, cuz they go way down deep.. and I don't have the electronics to effectively find 'em.
we were in about 60' of water. but the lake drops off to over 200' about 300 yards from shore. but the water around Manitoulin has so many fish you could just about catch them by droping a bucket over the side of the boat. we had about 7 or 8 hits in 4 or 5 hours. one of the locals told me they pulled a 56" pike out of there the summer before.

I fish a lake called "Manitou" (with the north and south often referred to as "Upper Manitou" or "Lower Manitou"), any idea if Manitoulin anywhere near there? I've gotta assume that the name is Ojibwe or some other native american language in origin.
ya I think I would have passed it off as a "big fish" story if it hadn't of been for the 48" pike he had mounted over his front door. as far as lake Manitou I’m not sure were that is. I know there is the Manito islands up near north bay. Manitoulan island is about 2 hours by ferry north of the tip of the Bruce peninsula (a great place to see eastern Massasauga rattlers btw :gj:) or about an hour south of Sudbury. it sits on lake Huron and Ontario bay.
