    rack cleaning...
It is that time of the month again. Rack cleaning day, I hate it. I like cleaning my enclosures but the rack kills me. I just spent 3 hours at it, I feel old now, creaky and crunchy.

The tubs are easy but the rack its self it a nightmare! I am using flexwatt so just spraying it to death isn't really an option ( water and unsealed electrical connections...) So I lay on my back and reach in bang my elbows and scuff my fingers I tried a squeegee and that helped a bit and a sponge on a stick that didn't help at all. In the end a sponge headlamp and bruised elbows did the job.

Is this just me? It takes me longer to do the rack than the enclosures and they have plants and stuff in them the rack is just a rack tubs and water bowl an a few hides here and there.

How long does it take you all to clean the rack not the tubs but the rack? Do you do that monthly or ???

Do you disinfect it? or just dust? I do a pressurized steam clean, wipe dry, scrub spots, and spray disinfectant and wait for it to work and then steam and dry. I figure as the snake contacts the rack its self it needs to be cleaned as well as every thing else the snake touches?

Do you use a lidded tub rack?

chlorhexidine on a swiffer that is an idea! Don't you still have to lay down to clean the lower rack slots? What do you use to clean with first?

I am just in the process of switching to F10SC XD the cleaner and the F10SC disenfectent. The tossing of the extra chlorhexidine bugs me.

hmmmm.....my racks get a little dusty as we are in AZ .....but never dirty. I wipe them down only if condensation builds. But other than that I haven't had to do a cleaning session. If something were to get on them I would clean with cholrohexadine

Rob I'll tell you I have given though to altering things. I always feel that as the snakes contact the upper surface it needs to be cleaned just the same as the bottom doesn't it?

It is not as if they cannot reach the upper side. I know mine get dusty, They never get really dirty I don't let it. I am starting to feel like I am alone in the cleaning that upper surface of the rack I do it monthly and it is the only snake related task I don't look forward to. I don't mind hard work and enjoy the satisfaction of having something really clean afterwards but the up and down and scrubbing in a confined space is the killer.

my rack is made of melamine and I clean it maybe once every 6 months unless I see something that needs cleaned immediately. my rack is in its own room and doestn ever get dirty. If it does I can just flip the rack upside down so I can clean the tops easily.
