What's your egg cutting method?

I'm curious what everyone's egg cutting techniques are. Especially those of you who cut the tops of seemingly without damaging veins.

Locate the major veins by candling prior to cutting

I do that and then cut around them to make a flap, but I don't take the top off until the veins dry up.

Always cut with a upward pressure away from the snake and veins. Dont freak out if you cut a vein as it wont kill the snake one bit.

I cut my eggs around day 45-50 and i make small slits. When they bigin to pip i may or may not make cuts bigger

The veins are lightly attached to the inside surface of the egg, you can actually go between the veins and egg surface if you create a small hole then lightly keep upward force on the scissors keeping a "pocket" of air to separate the veins from the surface. Candle first to find a good spot to start.

That being said, cutting a vein will not hard the snake, it's happened many times with no issues. You'll just see some blood, be careful and sure your scissors are no where near the snake.

I usually use small cuticle scissors, but have used a razor blade at times. I've also hit a few veins (candling does help find them) but have had no issues so far.

I do remember reading that cutting larger veins can harm the baby??? Can any experts out there confirm this? Isn't the blood flowing through these veins circulating through the baby via the umbilicus? I'm confused... :confused: :D

In any case, it's best to avoid cutting the veins...
