Humidity 99%!!

I recently purchased a used home-made rack off of a breeder. The bins were holding perfect humidity for him, I guess the change of atmosphere in my apartment is more intense than I thought. Although the bins have holes, the humidity is ranging between 90-99%. I don't know what to do, but my boyfriend has some snakes in there on QT and we have no where else to put them. ATM I have the bins opened halfway, but I can't watch them all night. Is there a way for me to lessen the humidity? Can I make holes w/o using a soldering iron or glue gun (as I have none right now). Any help will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

How well is the room ventilated? I think the more AC you run, the drier the air gets. It might help.

I use an oscillating fan to help circulate the air through my tubs which helps keep my humidity pretty stable.

Solder pens are $5 or less at walmart, harbor freight, etc.

At 90%+ humidity you should be seeing condensation on the sides of the tubs.

That's what I was thinking. I had a similar problem, my 41qt rack was constantly showing condensation on the right side of the tub this summer. I have never had problems with humidity living in AZ or WI so I've never purchased a hydrometer. I decided it was time to after seeing that.

Walmart has nice and simple Accurite ones for around $10 and soldering irons are a little less than that. My tub was showing around 75-80%, so I added another row of ventilation holes. Now it is perfect like my other racks. If it is in fact really that high I would purchase a soldering iron and make some more ventilation.

Thank you! I will definitely look into getting a Soldering Pen. I didn't have any condensation :S Maybe my Hygrometer is off? I even felt the substrate and it was still pretty dry. I do plan on getting some Thermo/Hygrometers from Acu-Rite also.

I'm actually having the same issue... The humidity in the room is about 50-55% and 78 degrees, yet my tub is getting 99% humidity with well over 120 holes put into it with a soldering pen. I don't have condensation... any other suggestions?

I put a fan facing the rack, and managed to get it down to 75%, it's just hard because my apartments humidity is sitting at 60-65% right now, and they are in bins with heat! I feel so bad! I might try halving their water? Would that help?

Well, mine isn't actually in a rack since its just the 1 bp. Its just a tub with a lid. I may try putting holes in the lid to see if I can drop it that way.

Halving the water *should help, but if you've already got pretty high humidity in the room then it might not be much.
