Finally,relief

I've had my boy just over a month and was still waiting on his first shed & poop. I've handled him at least every other day and never saw anything in his eyes to tell me they were clouding over, but I did notice a little dryness around his mouth so I ran with it and we started misting more & put the damp cloth on his screen, got the humidity up and for the next few days nothing, he just stayed in his hide and was very lazy, even when out of his cage. Well finally today when his hide was lifted he was in full shed...first half of his body came off in flakes (gonna watch the humidity more now) but as I went in to pick shed he bolted and I noticed he had a giant piece still attached so maybe the rest will go better. Ahh, the stress's of being a new owner.

Any suggestions whether I should bother headin to pickin up his mouse tomorrow?

Well....congrats on becoming a new owner! Im a new owner too :).

Ive read where alot of people dont feed, or their's wont eat during shed, but all three of mine have eaten aggresively during their shedding. You could pick up the mouse and try feeding him, and if he doesnt eat it then freeze it for later. or if its live then put it in a cage or something to feed to him later.

Some snakes will eat during/right after shed, some won't. It'll be worth getting the mouse just to see what kind of attitude he has after a shed.

For the record, I don't recommend picking the shed off them at all. Instead, just give them a good soak and they'll take the rest of it off with time. The only exception being retained eyecaps.

I didn't pick any off of him, just cleaning em off the ground.

I'm makin sure to keep the humidity up tonight and will see if he's got it all off tomorrow.

BTW, I'm not sayin this is a problem shed, just that I'm relieved to finally get my first shed...hopefully the eyecaps are fine and there will be no need for soaking or anything.

Congrats on your first shed! I remember how exciting mine was!!! I would go ahead and get the mouse, my guy still ate during shed, and like the others have said you could always keep the mouse a week if he turns it down.
