What are your thoughts on breeding in 28 quart?

What are your thoughts on breeding in a 28 quart tub?

I have a few females in 28qt tubs that are breeding, no probs :)

I wouldn't do it. In my opinion there isn't enough room for the female to thermoregulate so you are chancing egg issues. I had issues with it, a friend of mine had issues with it, and I have read about a few other people having issues too. The issues being, girls don't lay, small clutches, bad eggs, deformities, etc. The cause may not be small tubs, but it's not something I will ever do again.

I have bred one female a few times in a 28 and then moved her because I didn't feel she had enough room.

I have not had any probles with it. I have several females breed and lay in a 28qt.

I think this is one of those issues that you're going to find a good split between people who DO and people who DON'T use 28qts for breeding. No right or wrong; just preference.

I've got three females that I plan to breed this year (my first season breeding balls/snakes after 3 years of geckos) - they are all between 1500-1800g. They are all housed in 28qt tubs and are all healthy and eat regularly. Proper temps, humidity, etc. I have two 5 bin racks, one has back heat and one has belly heat. The females are all in the rack with back heat.

I didn't think there would be any issues with breeding in my tubs/racks and I don't really want to mess with them when they are doing well as is, but... I do want the best chance of healthy eggs.

After seeing this post... I'm a little worried. Obviously I don't want to risk any major problems...

What would be the best size tubs for breeding females? Should I switch them to belly heat if I'm going to have to build them a new rack? Or if I keep them in 28 qts, should I still switch them to belly heat? They've had back heat for 2-4 years... again I don't like messing with what they're used to and comfortable with...

Well now that i think about it, would it be better if you keep 1200-1500 gram females in 28s and 1500+ in 41s ?

I completly disagree to this, if you want a proper tempermant gradient for your girl she should be on a 41qt, espcially when she's all grown up, If your going to do it, get yourself a 41qt. A 28qt would get WAY to cramped up

Personally, I think it would be a bit of a tight fit for most females, let alone a pair of breeding balls. That being said, I do keep and breed some of my girls in 32qt tubs with no problems.
