    what thermostat should i buy
what thermostat should i buy it needs to be reliable, reasonable price (not expensive not to cheap), and most of all for a rack system i just couldn't forgive my self if i found 2 snakes fried because of a thermostat failure.

what is the difference between grounded cables and proportional on the thermostats?

Grounded is for any metal on the rack, which mine does. Proportional thermostats are generally better, although it's a personal preference kind of thing. Proportional thermostats use just enough power to keep the temp at whatever you set it at, and on/off thermostats use full power to heat it up, then shuts off at the temp you set it at, then turns back on when it reaches a certain degree. IMO proportional is always better, but on/off ones are generally cheaper.

Another +1 for Herpstat, and proportional thermostats in general.

Fair warning, thermostat posts tend to open up a can of worms, I hope your thread doesn't get hijacked.
