You need money.....buy one from animal plastics. they are better than home made. not much more and have heat included. buy the tubs and a thermostat and youre set.

ive built many of my own racks. still use many today. but obviously the original poster isnt a handy person or the question wouldnt have been asked. you can save money..no denying that. but in this situation id have to ASSUME that it would be best to buy one to save the trouble. also not enough info was posted of what the needs were. if you need to house 2 snakes then build one if you need to house 20 the buy one. ease of mobility is another concern. melamine racks suck to move around. plastic and abs are freaking fantastic if you move around a lot or need to get them out of the way to clean or recover that missing snake or dropped rat. not easy to find cheap places to buy plastic sheet around my parts to build your own racks out of.

What's the first 3 letters in assume? Although I do agree. I've built a rack and only used for a lil while and only use the ones I've bought now. I would say look around or if you know someone with both types of racks then ask to take a look at them. If u build it make sure its done right or else u will have a headache and ur snakes may ending up paying for ur mistake

I totally agree that more information is needed. If you are not good at building things, then yes, buy one from a company. I have heard lots of good things about the Animal Plastic racks. If you are willing to take a try at building one, the DIY forum has lots of good posts. I put one up that has all the materials, including a thermostat, that you need to build a 12 tub rack that holds either 41 quart or 28 quart Sterilite containers. Like adamjeffery said, Melamine racks are heavy and suck to move, so my plan has the 12 tub rack divided into 3 groups of 4 tubs that are much easier to move. Also, "open air" racks are great if you heat the whole room, Melamine, PVC, and other "closed air" racks are a better choice if you are going to keep the room at human living temeratures. Take a look at the DIY forumn and make a decision from there. Here is the link to the one I posted:
