    snakes and sound
What are your feelings on snakes and noise?
Do they care if I listen to music, play bass or guitar loud. Any examples would be good.

I used to keep new snakes in my bedroom for quarantine (because my room had an auxiliary heater and thermostat) ,and I play bass, guitar and sax in there as well as singing and just plain listening to music. In my experience the snakes reacted a bit (they'd poke their heads out of their hides a bit and look around) but it was never severe, so unless it's suuuper loud I don't think it'll bother them.

They don't have ear drums and therefore can't hear, but they can feel vibrations from the surface they're on. Another example is that they can differenciate between most noise and the sound of the hair dryer that I use to warm up rats and prescent before feeding, which is pretty cool. When they hear the blow dryer (even if there is no rat) they come out expecting to start smelling rat :P

Snakes have all of the inner ear equipment needed to hear. Vibration is transferred from the jawbone to the hearing apparatus. In humans, an eardrum and three small bones perform this function. They hear through a different mechanism than we do, but they do hear.
