Tub question

I just bought a 17qt tub for my bp, and was wondering if it was to big for him. If it is should i block some of it off to make it smaller? I dont know how much he weighs, but he is about 10 inches long and about 3 weeks old. Thanks in advance.

I think some will say it's too big. Most keep hatchlings in 6qt tubs, but if you give him hides I think it will be fine. I have 7 2010s that are under 700g in 41qt tubs with hides and they are all doing fine. If he will eat for you then I think it's okay, if you start having problems move him to something smaller.

Put 2 hides and maybe some drift wood inside to give him some dark space and keep and eye on his feeding schedule..

I havent put him in it yet, but he does have a hide and he eats well so far. He has had 2 pinky rats about 4 days apart. He is a little aggressive, but it helps with the feeding. Just dangle the pinky in front of the hide and he strikes at it. With handling will he eventually become nicer?

They tend to calm down as they age. My male spotnose used to aggressive but he's much better now. I still get hissed at by him sometimes, but he hasn't tried to bite me lately. Just as a note, if you get bit while handling don't put him back right away. They do learn biting means they get left alone.

Just give him two identical hides on each end and he should be fine. My (approx.) one year old Milks are in 15qt tubs that appear too large for them but they feed and thrive fine and when my BPs were much smaller I kept them in 41qt tubs with a couple hides and they've never had issues either.

Also, yes they do calm down as they age but be sure you're handling him occasionally also. If he's left alone as he ages he may still be aggressive, as I learned with my four year old normal male. Under care of his previous owner he wasn't handled at all for about three years, was tossed a few mice and had his huge tank cleaned perhaps twice a year (filled with filthy sand). Due to him never being handled, he was just as aggressive as a baby BP. A few months, several nips, and many hisses later he has calmed down a bit but I doubt he'll ever be a sweet little BP. :rolleyes:

Awesome, I'll just go get 2 hides then. Yeah I plan I handling him a good bit til he gets nice. He is a pretty little thing, would like to be able to show him off with out having to worry to much about him getting all angry.
