Having a bit of a temp problem.
Ok so the room I keep my snakes in is pretty warm already. During the day it is about a solid 88. At night it drops to low to mid 80's. I have a red bulb u usually keep on at all times and that usually keeps the hot side about 90 and 91-92 in the hide.
Today was really hot and the temps spiked up to 97 on the hot side and 90 on the cool side. I turned the lamps off and turned a fan on. The ac in this house sucks. There is only 1 small ac unit in the whole house to power both floors. Its 2200 sq ft. And we cant have any window units since it is in a housing addition.
    What should I do?

With the fan on. The temps are about 86 on the cool side and 90-91 on the hot side.

I am guessing you have a little snake is that correct? If so many keep juvenile snakes at constant 88ºF Do you have a t-stat on the lamps? If you don't I'd turn them off until the temps drop some if you do keep it set at 90 and it will kick on as needed.

Im not intentionally keeping it at 88 it is just what it is in the room. I do not have a t-stat on the lamps. They have never gone higher than 92 on me until today. I do plan on getting a better setup with some t-stats and heating pads when i get my new cages next week.

My point is you can keep them at 88 with little to no gradient esp. little ones. It isn't ideal but it is fine I'd not use the lamps until the ambient temps get back to normal.
