    Rescue of another kind...
Rescued this little fellow today !

Went to the barn today and saw one of the cats carrying around something that was squirming around. Knowing that all the cats there are beyond well fed, I hate to see them mess with wildlife. Most of the time those dang cats will kill stuff and then leave it.

Upon getting closer I see that its a slender snake, so I run after the cat who was not very happy getting interrupted. Finally the cat drops the snake and before he can grab it again I reach them both and run the cat off. I swear that cat would have loved to scratch my eyes out, LOL.

The little snake is a rough green snake, from the looks of it, an adult. It was quite long, but very slender. It looked a bit shell shocked, but I couldn't see any obvious damage. Not wanting to stress it even more by grabbing it again (they are very calm gentle snakes, though) I picked it up with a stick and let it slither onto it.

After a couple quick pics, I set it down with the stick in some brush, near water and trees.

Here is the little lucky fellow, I have to say, it was a GORGEOUS snake !!

Excuse the crappy cell phone pics ;)

Only hope he didn't have any internal damage. Once he felt safe again he slithered away pretty quickly.

    Thanks all :)

I had never seen one in person before ! They really are stunning. I used to have Green Tree Pythons and I have to say, those rough green snakes look just as beautiful color wise as my green Trees did !

I'm very glad I got there at the right time ! That particular cat is especially bad at grabbing everything, killing it slowly, and leaving it. I really can't stand that about cats.

One day it had a baby chipmunk and it was still alive as well. I was riding at that time, though, so I couldn't run after that cat fast enough since I was dragging the horse behind me, and the cat got away into the woods with the poor little chipmunk. Also see it with birds etc all the time, ugh !

All those cats out there are fat as drums, there is catfood everywhere, they just kill for amusement.

I like cats, too, but there are a few out there I can't stand. One is that particular one that just likes to kill for fun, the other one is the one I call "pisser". His favorite thing to do is to "spray" on everything ! My trailer, truck, tackroom, horse blankets etc etc.

That one I would love to make disappear !! Of course he is a wily old thing, and won't let anyone near him.

This is why cat's shouldn't be allowed free range outside. All letting them out does is put smaller sized wild animals at risk. This could have been something threatened like an Indigo where every one in the wild is needed to help support the population.

Feral cats breed faster than dogs yet it's pretty unusual for laws & regulations to address them even in places where dogs must be restrained [leashes, invisible fencing, etc].

Yet most cat owners see this as blasphemy and think that their pets should be able to do whatever they want, wherever they want.

I agree whole heartedly. I have worked very hard on my flowerbeds around the house, and now there is another cat that feels the need to use it as a litterbox. It makes me furious. Not to mention when they spray, its nearly impossible to get rid of that god awful smell.

I can see barn cats allowed being loose, obviously, when on a farm, but thats about the only setting they should be allowed to roam. At the barn I board at, the barn cats are a joke, though. Everyone seems to bring some to the barn, and there is catfood EVERYWHERE left out, attracting racoons, foxes, skunks etc. The cats are fat and not interested in keeping the barn vermin free. The only ones that like to hunt , end up killing the wildlife they should leave alone.

Roaming cats in neighborhoods are a huge pet peeve of mine. Especially after I just got done weeding my flowerbeds and finding more "surprises". Just nasty !!! Wish I could deposit those surprises on the peoples doorsteps that let their cats out to roam !!

Anyway, it made me really happy to have at least saved ONE life from that dang cat ! Only hope the snake didn't have internal injuries...
