Vet checkups?

hey everyone, i was thinking about making an appointment to give my little guy a checkup at the vet. I think hes healthy and all my husbandry is fine but i just wanted to be sure. Does anyone eles have routine checkups. Its 75$ do you think its just a waste of money cause hes doing fine. thanks in advance

IMO, the vet is only going to handle the snake for a minute, ask you a few questions, and request a fecal sample done. Bam...that'll be $75 if that even includes the fecal. I say bring in a fecal for around $25, if it's clean you saved a ton of money, if not then worry about a vet visit for meds. :)

Mine only go to a vet if it needs something (like surgery), that I cannot handle at home.

so you guys think if there is no noticeable problem at the moment a checkup is unnecessary but fecal samples are cheaper and necessary every once and a while

fecals are good to have done once a year or so, vet visits are a waste of money...

When I only had 2 BPs I took them in for a visit and it was such a waste. The vet handled the snakes, opened there mouths and requested that I get a fecal done on them. At the time I wasn't a member here, so I also requested his help with stuck eye caps on my normal who shed the day before and all he did was stick her in some warm water for a minute and charge me $20 for it. I spent almost $200 to waste my time for 30 minutes. >_<

Save your money and just get the fecal done.

allright i guess the best way to tell if they are healthy is by theere eating habits, sheds, and husbandry and i think i will get a fecal done even though he takes so long to poop haha. Thanks

I'd agree with the samples they are very good idea to have done.

The visit depends, my vet is quite good with snakes, she has been doing a lot of training since her old boss left. She is very busy and does not see emergency new clients. That means if you have not visited with at least one snake before she will not see you in an emergency and you will see one of the other vets in the clinic. She is the ONLY vet in 700 miles that has done anything with snakes or has any previous knowledge. In my case the 100$ is well worth it to know if I have an emergency case she will fit me in.

allright well ill wait until he poos next and make an appointment to meet the vet a check for internal parasites, and if i see any signs of illness THEN ill get the check up. Thanks

My vet recommends fecal checks on a regular basis. Yearly if eating f/t, and twice a year for live and p/k. But that's not a full vet check, that's just a fecal check.
