measure temp on substrate or glass
I just got my temp gun and when I measure the heat on the substrate it is 5-10 degrees below what the glass is reading. So my question is how should I measure the temp on the hot side? What is to hot on the glass for a snake?

It depends of your substsate and how compact it is. Some substrate are easily moved by snakes. I seen many a snake leave a circle shaped clearing over the hot spot laying right on the glass. However, some substrate are pretty hefty. So if the snake can't move it or dig into it then concentrate on the temp at the surface.
